Cookbook Corrections

Here is an updated list of corrections to the cookbook. Some are minor some are a "little bit important".

Page 17- Nacho Dip - Should say to brown and drain the sausage & hamburger.

Page 21 - Puppy Chow - add 1/4 cup butter to ingredients

Page 67 - Susan's Vinaigrette Potato Salad - should be 3 pts per cup, not 8

Page 69 Moms Christmas Eve Fruit Salad - Directions should say Combine sugar and flour and mix with remaining ingredients up to cream.

Page 79 Red Skin Potatoes - Should say 1 T. Johnnys Garlic Spread (or minced garlic)

Page 85 - Asparagus Pasta Toss - should say chicken Italian sausage in the notes with no comma between chicken and Italian sausage

Page 87 - Uncle Niilos Corn on the Cob - should be, bring water to a boil before adding cobs, boil for 7 minutes

Page 119 - Mexican Curry - add 1 can (tomato sauce can) water to ingredients

Page 129 Annes Spaghetti Sauce - Ingredient list should be 1 lb. ground beef, 1 lg. onion, 2 tsp. minced fresh oregano or ¾ tsp. dried oregano

Page 135 - Corned Beef Hot dish - Should also have 1 c. American cheese

Page 201 Blueberry French Toast - To ingredient list, add 12 eggs and 2 cups milk

Page 255 Peaches and Cream Dessert - Crust ingredients were left out: ¼ cup melted butter, 1 ½ cups vanilla wafer crumbs (appx. 38 wafers). Combine melted butter and wafer crumbs, reserving ½ cup to sprinkle on top, and press in 9 x 9 pan.

Page 316 - Mint Brownies - should be 3 eggs and add 2 cups brown sugar to ingredients.

Page 317 - Caramel Bars - should say, save ¾ cup for topping, first baking time should be 10 minutes not 40.

Page 332 - Mom’s Fudge - add to ingredients, 1 teaspoon vanilla

Page 338 - Country Style Hot Dog Relish - total celery seed should be 1 T. (it's listed twice). FYI: 12 green pepper = 13 cups & 10 tomatoes = 10 cups

Latest corrections:

Everyday Stuff

Finally got the pool covered last night.
Jeanie and Danny playing Payday

We had sweet corn and BLT's for supper. The local vegetable stand still has sweet corn. It's a new later variety. She said this was only their second picking. It was actually very sweet and crunchy. We also had some awesome BLT's. We used thick sliced peppered bacon. And we cooked the bacon on the grill! I just laid them across the grill. The tabletop weber gas grill. With garden tomatoes and homemade bread........delicious!!!

Dad and I were the only ones home today after church. That was weird. Jeanie got an invite last night and Danny got invited at church. He was pretty excited to go somewhere! When I picked him up, we had this conversation:

Danny: I wish I lived at Nate's house.

Me: What???!!

Danny: Because they have a WII and their pool is still open.

Me: Wouldn't you miss me and dad?

Danny: No

Me: Wouldn't you miss Jeanie?

Danny: Heck No!!

Me: Wouldn't you miss Kaitlin, Molly and Gretchen?

Danny: No

Me: What about when Brett comes home next time. Wouldn't you miss him?

Dannny: Yes.......I'll just come home when Brett comes then when he goes back up north, I'll go back to Nate's.

I think he must be missing his big brother. Me too!

A Collage of Adrian, Orrin and Kendall

No, I haven't quit blogging. I will try to get better and take some "everyday" pictures of what's happening at home. As that is why I do this blog for you kids. Nothing too exciting has been going on but I know you kids would be happy even with "boring" pics! I'll take some today!

PS - See my reading list on the right: Sons of Fortune by Jeffrey Archer is my new favorite book by Jeffrey Archer. Also, The Bonesetter's Daughter by Amy Tan is my first Amy Tan I've read and really enjoyed it. I took another one of hers out of the library.

Danny Tries Again

Danny pulled out a loose tooth, (in church Sunday!) and forgot about it until last night. He put it in this baggy with a little note. He leaves it on the kitchen window sill for the tooth fairy. (She's getting old and tends to forget if it's under his pillow. Although, truthfully, she was quite forgetful when she was young also!) He got up this morning and walks to the window and peers at the bill. Picks it up and looks a little closer.........Darn! it was only $1 not $20.

My Find

I think Jennifer is rubbing off on us. I found these two "windows" at a barn sale yesterday. $2 a piece. Count the squares.......14! Perfect for my graduation pictures. Now to make a "challenge" to actually get them matted and hung!

It Must Be Fall

The smell of these Apple Pie Slices, page 313 in our family cookbook, sure make it smell like fall. These are the best! I especially like them cold with no ice cream. Others prefer them warm with ice cream. For anyone who may not have the cookbook, the recipe is on the right. Just "click" on "recipe" and scroll down until you find this one. Actually, most of those recipes are in the cookbook!

The kids are all back in school and I'm trying to get motivated to "tackle" this house. Deep clean and de-junk. I'm thinking about looking for a job. Actually, I have been looking but there isn't much out there. Anyone know anyone hiring? Of course, I want part-time, no nights and no weekends. Preferably not retail and no cleaning jobs.

"Last Swim of Summer"

Dad was going to close the pool Saturday so Danny and Jeanie were getting their last swim in. Or so they thought........As Dad ended up burning brush and washing the car, the pool won't be closed until next weekend. Danny swam after school yesterday and will probably do so every day until it's closed. Notice Jeanie's lovely suit. She tends to just grab two pieces of a swimsuit. Matching is not an issue.

First Day of School 2009

Dan is the first to leave in the mornings and the only one riding the middle/high school bus. He keeps saying, "I can't believe I'm in 8th grade!" (We can't either Dan! and I can't figure out how to get rid of this underscore!! There are no underscore options above this box!!)
This is the only picture I got of the high schoolers. Molly is in the back seat. They were running a little late as someone's alarm didn't go off.
I forgot to take a picture of Jeanie until I saw the neighbor snapping pictures of her kids so I had to run home and get the camera. This is at the bus stop. Her last year in elementary school.
