Happy Birthday (Friday) Matt and Wade

We celebrated Matt's 30th and Wade's 22nd.

Last weekend Danny had a friend over and he was telling him that Matt's birthday was in five days. Then he asked me how old Matt was going to be. When I told him 30, he looked at his friend and said, "Hoooooooooooo IS THAT OLD!!!!!!!"

A Day in the Kitchen

And I love it! My favorite kind of day. Today is Matt and Wade's birthdays. The menu: Barbeque Meatballs, Cheesy Potatoes, corn and homemade bread. Wade wanted Ice Cream Cake (Buster Bar Dessert) and Matt wanted "white cake with chocolate frosting". I'm trying a cake recipe from Cooks Illustrated The New Best Recipe Cookbook. (From the library.) I also have Nisua dough rising for cinnamon rolls and cinnamon bread. I'm thinking I'll give some to Wade and Matt for birthday gifts. I'm sure I'll post birthday pictures later. On another note....Kaitlin, Gretchen, Molly and myself had dentist appointments and NO CAVETIES!!! I think we all have been cavity free for several appointments. Hope it's permanent!

And Another Garage Sale Find

I stopped at a garage sale after my walk today. This is a nice small desk. I got it for $30. Not sure who is going to get it. Molly wants it in her room but I just may use it as a sewing desk.

Update on Uncle Pete

From the family email from his son Dave:

Dad had these 3 tests and here are the results. The MRI and PET scanns showed that the cancer did not spread anywhere else in his body. The Breathing test was not good enough to make him a candidate for surgury YET. He is home now, on antibiotics to prevent infection and allowed to resume as normal a life as possible until the 28th. Hopefully he will improve his lung condidition enough to become a candidate for surg.

Dave

Grandpa's Doctor told him to walk a couple miles a day. That was months ago and for all we know, he may be in Chicago by now.

Projects

I recently finished this bag for Larissa. The first picture is before I felted it. I just throw it in my front loader washing machine and wash it with a couple pair of blue jeans. This one I ran through two loads. If I don't have jeans to wash I have a couple old pair of Dad's jeans I use for felting. This is the almost finished project. I want to line it with this fabric and put a zipper in it.
I am making a sweater for Brady out of worsted weight sock yarn. The color is more muted than the computer shows. At least my computer. It is more earth tone than it is looking here. This is done on size 4 needles so it is not very fast going but it is so fun to see it take shape. Both patterns were free off the internet.

Update on Uncle Pete

I cut and pasted the following update from the family website. There are so many stories and rumors going around about Uncle Pete's condition. This is from his son Dave. I have no clue if Pete or Ellen or any of their family look at this blog but they are very dear to our hearts and we are remembering them with thoughts and prayers.
This is from Dave, Pete and Ellen's son:

I will try to shed some light on the fact that my dad has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Many have questions about him and mom's situation so I will try to write on a regular basis or whenever pertinent information comes along. Please feel free to forward this to anyone else. A month ago, he coughed up a lunger with a little blood in it and he wrote it off as caused by acid reflux or something like it. Tums worked for a little while the it came back. He went in and doc ordered a chest xray and discovered a lump in his right lung about2x4 inches. We then took him to Mqt. for a biopsy. The biopsy came back as showing he has Adeno carcinoma which is not fast and not slow but average growing cancer. Then on friday the 10th, he was picking carrots and spuds in the garden and he coughed up blood. He went to the ER and then to Mqt where they tried to cotterize(sp) the bleed but could not find it. It had stopped on its own. He is now out of intensive care and in a regular room on the Oncology floor. TOday, monday the 13th, he had a MRI of his head and a breath/capacity test of his lungs, tuesday he will have a PET scan. The MRI and PET scans will determine if the cancer has spread and will tell us what stage its at and the lung test will help determine if he can be cosidered for a Lobectomy which is a removal of a lung or portion of a lung. That is where we are for now. Like I said, I will try to update this way when we know more.Dave (Gdson of Vaari, son of Pete)
